Amy (Perman) Javens isone of the top all-around athletes – male or female – to carry the banner ofHickory High School.

She performed in track & field (1987-90), basketball(1987-90), cross country (1989) and football cheerleading (1987-90).

A four-year letterman in track & field for Mercer County Hall of Famer Barb Dzuricsko, she set numerous District 10 and school records, some of which still stand today.

In 1990, she was named to the PIAA All-State team after winning the state 300-meter hurdles crown, while medaling in the 100M hurdles (4th) and long jump (6th). She won District10 championships in all three events and established records, two that still stand. That year she was named honorable mention on the USA Track & Field National Interscholastic Team.

As a junior, she medaled (3rd) at state in both hurdles events, while also qualifying in the long jump after D-10 titles in all three competitions. Her sophomore year she won the D-10 crown in the 100M hurdles to qualify for state, while placing runner-up at districts in the 300M race.

In basketball, she was a 3-time letter winner for Mercer County Hall of Fame Coach Sally Ward and helped the team win Region championships in her junior and senior seasons. In 1988-89, the team was D-10 runner-up.

Amy went on to compete in track on scholarship at Kent State University and in 1991 she was a Mid-Atlantic qualifier in the 400M hurdles. She was unable to complete her college career because of injury.

She went on to excel as a professional triathlete and Age Group Elite triathlete, winning numerous competitions and copping multiple USA Triathlon All-American awards. She was the Ironman Los Cabos and Beach 2 Battleship overall female champion, as well as multiple Ironman World Championship qualifier.

A member of several sports organizations, she served as junior high and high coach at Hickory and Sharon in track and junior high coach basketball at Hickory. She coached multiple state medalists in the hurdles during her tenure. She was race director for the SV YMCA Youth Triathlon 2005-2006.  Amy has also coached 100s of athletes in triathlon, including many Ironman World Championship qualifiers and Boston Marathon qualifiers.

Amy and her husband recently have enjoyed traveling to watch their three daughters in their collegiate and post collegiate sports and activities.
