

Andrew M. Houpt was one of the greatest all-around athletes produced at Greenville High School.
In football, he was a four-year letterman and multi-talented in many positions. He was All-County as well as All-Conference at three different positions (running back, safety and punter). He set a school record in scoring and kicked a school-record field goal.
He also shined in basketball (1975-78) and track and field (1975-77). He was a state medalist in track -7th in the 880 relay in 1976 and 6th in the 4X400 relay in ’77.
Andrew went on to play football for two years at Wittenberg University.
As a sophomore he was named the team’s most improved offensive player and was the leading receiver with 20 catches. He helped the team to the OAC championship.
He transferred to Thiel College for his final two years and was first-team All-President’s Athletic Conference with a team-leading 54 receptions. He also punted and kicked when needed.
He had a 1984 tryout with the Pittsburgh Steelers at Three Rivers Stadium.
In his early sports career, he was a member of the Greenville Little League All-Star team that finished as state runner-up in 1972.
He went on to coach basketball in grades 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 for six years. He coached Little League baseball for 9 seasons, winning 2 league championships and two All-Star District crowns.
Andrew served as a member of the Greenville Little League board and scheduled umpires for All-Star games. He was a member of the Solon (Ohio) Softball Association.
