Bruce Harrold was a phenomenal basketball player at Sharon High School and Temple University in the 1970s.A Sharon he was a key player on the squad and one of the leading scorers from 1973 to 1975. He helped the team to records of 18-4 and 17-6 his junior and senior years.His senior season for Coach Alex Chrobak he was named to the WPIAL All-Section 3 team as the team went 13-1 in the section and earned a spot in the WPIAL playoffs where they lost a heart-breaking 48-47 overtime decision to Burrell.
He played basketball for St. Gregory Junior College in 1975-76 and was named to Bi-State Conference All-Star team.He earned a scholarship at Temple University where he had an outstanding career. In the 1976-77 season, Bruce was named the "Top Newcomer." That season he was named to the All-Tourney Team at the Sugar Bowl. In 1978 he was voted "Best Defensive Player."
In 1978, his play helped the team earn a spot in the NIT. In 1978-79, he served as co-captain as the team rose to a ranking of 14th in the country. He was named to the All-Big Five Team for Philadelphia-area colleges and helped the Owls reach the NCAA Tournament.
Bruce went on to play in the Super Pro League in Los Angeles with the Texas squad in 1982. That year he also helped as assistant coach to Frank Sincek at Farrell High School.
In his youth, he was also an outstanding baseball player in the Sharon American Little League. In 1967 and '68, his Knights of Columbus teams won league tiles. He was named to the league All-Star team in 1969 and 1970 and the later year he helped the team reach the Final Four in Pennsylvania.In 1979, he had a free agent tryout with the Philadelphia Phillies.
