There are few people in Mercer County who have contributed more to the youth of our area than Dave Goodwin.
Since 1977, he has been involved with the Sharon Senior Division, helping young baseball players learn the game.
He has worn numerous hats in helping the league. He has served as manager, volunteer, treasurer and umpire-in-chief in his time.
Dave helped develop a league for 13-year olds who don't get much playing time against the older players.
He received recognition from the league for his service in 1982, 1986, 1989 and 1994.
A Buhl Day honoree for his baseball service and other community contributions, Dave has received many other accolades. He was Sharon Rotary Club "Business Person of the Year" in 2000.
He goes well beyond the duties of team managers with "his boys" in Senior Division. The players can always look forward to frequent treats, such as trips to restaurants, Major League Baseball games and amusement parks.
Dave never cuts grass at home, but frequently cuts the grass at the ballfield.
He was a former outstanding softball player for First Presbyterian team in the Shenango Valley Church League for many years. And even though he is in his early 80s, Dave still throws batting practice to his baseball teams.
