Dave Hoye took over the Lakeview High girls basketball program in its infancy in 1975 and built it into one of the most respected programs in western Pennsylvania.
He played basketball at Wilmington High, before graduating in 1963 and attending Slippery Rock University where he participated in intramural football and basketball.
He began his coaching career at Lakeview in 1967, a long career that included coaching boys basketball teams ranging from fifth grade to junior varsity, girls varsity basketball, and then returning to coaching boys in 1999.
In his first year as head girls coach in 1975, his team tied for Mercer County League championship. During the next decade his teams won league championships (1976, 1980, 1981, 1985) and District 10 titles (1978, 1981, 1982).
His Lady Sailors were Western Pennsylvania finalists in 1978, 1979 and 1982, while being state finalists in 1982. He had a career record of 217-51 and a playoff mark of 33-13. He had five seasons with 20-plus wins and one year with 30 victories.
