David "Dave" Miller was a standout basketball player at Sharon High and Edinboro State College who also shined in the coaching ranks. He was a 2-year letterman at Sharon in basketball and captain and starter on the 1963-64 team.

He went on to Edinboro, where he was a 4-year letterman and team captain in 1967-68. The team won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crown his senior year. The Fighting Scots won a district championship in 1965-66 and competed in the NAIA tournament that season. The team was ranked in the top 20 in the country in 1966 and '68.

He went on to an illustrious coaching career in Maryland at both high school and college levels. After one season as JV coach at Poolesville High, he took over the varsity reins in 1969 and coached there until 1981.

He had nine winning seasons at the Class C school, which competed in a league with bigger Class A and B schools. Under his guidance, the team qualified for 10 postseason tournaments, winning a regional crown in 1978 and playing in the Maryland state championship game. Two players were selected honorable-mention All-Americans.

He was varsity coach at Walkersville High (1981-93) where his teams won Maryland state championships in '84 and '86 and also reached the finals in '82 and '88. Dave's teams were state semifinalists in '87 and '92, while winning six regional crowns and seven league titles. He was named Frederick News/Post coach of the year three times and posted an overall mark of 224-73 there.

He has coached at Frederick Community College since 1993. His teams made 11 straight appearances in the Regional XX tournament. His clubs were ranked 8th in the country in both 2001-02 and '03-04 seasons, while ranking 17th in '97-98. He was JUCO coach of the year in 2002 and Charm City Association top coach in 2002. He produced the school's first two first-team All-Americans. His overall record there is 193-131. His overall coaching career mark is a phenomenal 540-346. He has also served at athletic director at all three schools, while being assistant football coach at Walkersville, where the team was a state finalist in '86 and state champion in '87. He has served as president of the Maryland Junior College Basketball Coaches Association since 1999.

He has donated a lot of time, along with his college team, to help emotionally-troubled children and mentally-challenged adults.
