Dennis Tobias was a three-sport standout at Sharon High School from 1961-65, a participant in football, basketball and golf. But on the gridiron is where he gained fame.
After a sparkling career with the Tigers under head coach Tony Razzano, Dennis earned a scholarship and went on to an outstanding football career at Toledo University. He was named Second Team All-Mid-American Conference in 1968 when he led the team in receptions.
He was a key figure on the 1967 Rockets’ Mid-American Conference championship team that went 9-1, and was named honorable mention All-MAC that year.
In 1968, he received a free-agent contract from the San Diego Chargers, but an injury prevented a tryout.
Dennis was also a superb baseball player, making all-star teams in Little League, Babe Ruth and under-18 leagues.
He has remained active in Toledo athletics as a member of the Varsity T executive board and was a member of the Varsity T Hall of Fame selection committee. He served as chairman of the Varsity T Hall of Fame Banquet.
He served 35 years in education—28 as a guidance counselor— and coached many sports, including varsity football, varsity baseball, boys and girls junior varsity basketball and summer baseball.
