Eric Mausser was an outstanding wrestler at Sharon High School and Clarion University, who went on to a brilliant, nationally recognized coaching career.

At Sharon, he was a two-time state qualifier and a state runner-up his senior season with a 35-1 record. A two-time section champ, he was the school’s first district title winner. He notched two Northwest Regional crowns and was also a cadet freestyle and Greco-Roman state champ.

At Clarion, Eric was a 4-year starter at 197 pounds, team captain his final two seasons. His 125 career victories ranks 6th all-time. He was a four-time Division I NCAA Qualifier and a four-time PSAC and Eastern Wrestling League place-winner, copping first in both in 2002.

Among other honors: PSAC Winter Top 10 and Scholar Athlete Awards; EWL Scholar-Athlete; Clarion Scholar Athlete and Coaches Award; Clarion Pin Club Senior Academic Award and many more club honors.

He was named Clarion Wrestling Dan Walters Outstanding Rookie in 1999 and honored on the Amateur Wrestling News NCAA Division I All-Rookie Team. He won multiple EWL Wrestler of the Week honors.

As a Duquesne University grad assistant coach from 2003-05, he coached 6 NCAA tourney qualifiers and the team won the Eastern Regional Championship in 2005.

He went on to coach Franklin Regional High School from 2008-2016. His wrestlers won 11 individual state titles. They were WPIAL 3A Team Champions in 2014 and ’15 as well as PIAA 3A Team Dual Tournament champs and Individual Tourney champs those years. The 2015 team set a state record for most points.

Eric won 3 Section, 2 WPIAL and 2 PIAA State Coach of the Year Awards. He was named National High School Coach of the Year and USA Today Coach of the Year in 2015. He was Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic Coach twice and USA Dream Team head coach.

Several of his wrestlers went on to phenomenal college and international mat careers.

He was inducted into the Sharon High Alumni Hall of Fame in 2021 and Franklin Regional Athletic Hall in 2022.
