Ginny Wilson
Ginny Wilson is a former Lakeview High and Indiana University of Pa. athletic great who has contributed greatly to sports as a coach.
At Lakeview from 1979-82, she competed in both basketball and track & field for all four years. She was voted “Athlete of the Decade” at the school for the 1980s
In basketball, she scored more than 1,000 points and had more than 1,000 rebounds in helping the Lady Sailors to French Creek Valley Conference titles in 1980, ‘81 and ‘82. The team went on to win District 10 crowns in 1981 and ‘82, while finishing as state runners-up her senior season.
In track, Ginny was second all-time in total points, winning 5 state medals which remains as a Lakeview record.
Highlight was her senior year when she won a gold medal at state in the discus, while finishing 4th in the shot put. She finished third in both as a junior, while taking 6th in the discus as a sophomore.
Some of her track accomplishments included: school record holder in discus; member of the District 10-winning 400 relay team that holds school and D-10 record (50.0 seconds); Lakeview team won D-10 titles for three years; D-10 champion in discus for three years and shot put champ in 1982.
At IUP, Ginny was a three-year starter in basketball and captain her senior year.
She still ranks in the top 20 for career assists and steals. The team played for the PSAC championship in 1984. In track & field, she still holds the discus record (142’ 11Ó) and qualified for the national championships in 1984.
In graduating from IUP, she received the “Most Outstanding Senior” Award for graduates from the Health and Physical Education program.
A phys-ed teacher at Manheim Township High School, Lancaster, Pa., for 23 years, she has coached freshman girls basketball for most of her tenure and was head varsity softball coach for 15 years (1993-2007).
She is past member of the Lancaster-Lebanon League Softball Coaches Association and served as president (2007) and vice-president (3 years). She coached at numerous basketball and softball camps.
