Growing up in Mercer County, Erin Borowicz is believed to be the first Wilmington High athlete to earn an induction to the MCHF. And earn it she did - not only as an athlete, but for a great career as a coach and official.
She played on the boys golf team and girls basketball squad at Wilmington from 1979-83, as well as a member of the track and field team from 1979-82. A three-year letterman in boys golf, Erin was one of six WPIAL representatives in the PIAA Girls Golf Championships, where she placed 25th. She set a female record low score of 25 at Borland Par-3 Golf Course (Par 27) at the age of 17. The record still stands today.
Erin was a four-year letter winner in girls golf at Penn State University and was named the Lion Linkster Golf of the Year in 1987.
Even though her golf career in high school and college ended in 1987, she continued to play competitively in many area individual and team events. A big promoter of junior golf, she directed the Junior Golf League and annual Junior Golf Tournament at Borland since 1990. Many graduates of that program went on to successful high school and college level programs.
Her many other sports contributions include: volunteer president of the Dick and Mary Lou Borowicz Memorial Scholarship Fund which awards annual college scholarships to area high school students; Greenville boys varsity golf head coach (1998-90); Mercer girls varsity volleyball head coach (1991-93); West Middlesex girls varsity basketball head coach (1993-97); Wilmington Area girls varsity basketball head coach (1998-2000); womans golf rep to the Nittany Lions Club in State College (2011-14); PSU Alumni Association-Shenango Valley Board of Directors (2001-2010). She has been a PIAA volleyball referee since 1997.
