Jim Tamber has been one of the most instrumental members of the Mercer County Hall of Fame for many years, including the last 16 as president of the organization.
Under his guidance the Hall has thrived and he has been personally responsible for many of the accomplishments in inducting worthy candidates each year while maintaining ticket prices at a reasonable rate. His personal friendships with the Erme family and Mel Grata have netted 10s of thousands of dollars for the group, which helps the Hall to put on an unmatched banquet every year.
He has been chairman of the banquet committee since 1994 and works with the hotel each year to assure things run smoothly. He served for several years as chairman of the annual Hall golf scramble, the predecessor fundraiser to todays steak fry. He was a key fund-raiser during the Hall's 50th anniversary celebration in 1997 during a charity auction to raise money for the Shenango Valley Children's Organ Transplant Fund.
Jim was an outstanding athlete in his own right at Kennedy Christian High School playing football, basketball and track in the early days of the school athletic programs.
Also a long-time superb golfer, he studied then took an extensive training course to become a USGA Certified Rules Official, qualifying to work at any amateur or pro tournament in the United States.
