Rod Wright is one of the elite wrestling talents ever produced in Mercer County, only the second wrestler in county history to win three PIAA State Championships.

He was a standout in football and wrestling at Lakeview High from 1983-87. He was a 4-year letterman on the mats, winning state crowns his final three years and posting a career mark of 138-12-2, including 38-0 his senior season. He was a 4-time Section champ, while winning two District 10 and Northwest Region crowns. He notched two prestigious victories at the Challenge of Champions (Pa. AA vs. AAA) and Dapper Dan Classic (Pa. stars against USA) his senior season.

Rod earned a scholarship to wrestle at Edinboro University and was highly ranked nationally as a redshirt sophomore. Unfortunately his career was cut short by a knee injury at the NCAA Division I Championships.

In 2002, he assumed the head coaching duties at Boiling Springs (Pa.) High School. In 14 years, his clubs posted a 230-49 record and won 7 District III Team Championships. His teams reached the PIAA Team Championship semifinals 5 times, finishing state runner-up in 2012, 4th in 2014 and winning the AA state crown in 2015. A District III Coach of the Year 5 times, he was inducted into the PA Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame as a wrestler in 2002.

In 2015, he was named the PIAA Class AA Coach of the Year.
