Doug was an outstanding football and track performer at Grove City High and followed with a superb career in both sports at Slippery Rock University.

At Grove City, he played on the gridiron from 1972 through 1975. His senior year he was first-team running back All-Northwest Conference and All-Mercer County. He averaged 4.9 yards a carry and more than 100 yards per game. He was also honorable mention linebacker on both polls. Throwing the javelin was his true forte as he competed in track and field from 1973-76. In 1975, he was 7th in the PIAA championships. In 1976 he was AAU champion and had the 3rd best throw in the nation (205-feet) which was a school stadium record and 2nd best in school history.

At Slippery Rock University, he was a three-year letter winner in football, playing strong safety. In 1978 he was the Lynn Hoffman Memorial MVP recipient and was named team captain for the 1979 season. He played with the team in Michigan Stadium, with more than 65,000 in attendance, still the largest Div. II attendance record. He was a three-year letterman in track as well.

Doug coached football at Grove City and in Colorado and Montana, as well as soccer and baseball. In 2004, he was named 2004 Soccer Gatorade Parent of the Year in Colorado. He went on to play independent football and coach for several years in Summit County, Colorado. In the annual Pumpkin Bowl to raise money for the burn center at Denver's Children's Hospital, he was named Defensive MVP in 1990. He still plays ice hockey today while his other sports have included softball, golf and skiing.

Doug has held executive-level positions in resort master planning, development and sales for some of the biggest ski/golf resorts in the country, including Copper Mountain and Steamboat, CO; Hidden Valley, PA; and Whitefish Mountain, MT. He has been a member of the Slippery Rock University Football National Championship Committee since 2015.
