Gary Taylor
Gary, who began his athletic career at Greenville High School, went on to become one of the winningest NCAA Division 1 wrestling coaches in history. From 1964 to 67, he competed in football, wrestling and track at Greenville. He was a District 10 champion and regional runner-up on the mats and played on a Trojan football team that went 13-1.
He attended Clarion University and placed 4th in the Eastern Wrestling League championships before transferring to East Stroudsburg, from where he graduated.
He spent 39 years as head wrestling coach at Rider University where his teams won 14 conference championships and he was named Coach of the Year 8 times. When he retired he was the third winningest coach in the history of NCAA Wrestling with 442 victories. In 2010, Rider presented Gary with the Frank N. Elliott Award for Distinguished Service.
In 2014, he was honored with the university's most prestigious award, the Sesquicentennial Medal of Excellence for �recognition of his outstanding achievements, leadership, success, and most importantly, the honor he had brought to Rider Athletics and the University community.
His brother, Ron, is also a Mercer County Hall of Famer.
