Jerry Misik
Jerry Misik was a Farrell High football standout who went on to a stellar career at the University of Cincinnati.
At Farrell, he played three years on the gridiron earning letters in 1961 and 1962 at fullback and linebacker. He was the defensive captain and signal-caller. Named to the Mercer County All-Star team, he led the squad to a thrilling 7-6 victory over the Lawrence County All-Stars, scoring the only touchdown for the winning unit. While at Farrell, the all-around athlete also competed in baseball for 4 years and was named to the Mercer County All-Star team in 1962. He played basketball and track at Farrell for 3 seasons.
Misik received numerous college scholarship offers, choosing to play football at the University of Cincinnati. He was the starting fullback for 3 years and was lauded as a terrific blocker out of the I-formation for the Bearcats. He was captain of the 1967 team.
Bud Wilkinson, former Hall of Fame coach at Oklahoma University and broadcaster for ABC Sports, commented prior to Cincinnati's first televised game in 1966: "Watch Misik. Where he goes, the ball goes."At conclusion of his college career, he received a free-agent contract to compete for a defensive back position for the New York Giants, but declined due to sports-related injuries.
Misik coached baseball, football and soccer for many years. And while he had the outstanding sports career, he said his greatest satisfaction came from counseling, teaching and coaching young student-athletes.
