John Erimias was an outstanding two-sport athlete at Sharpsville High School.
A 1976 graduate of Sharpsville, he excelled in both football and wrestling his junior and senior years.
In wrestling under coach John Stevens, he was a Section runner-up and qualified for the district tourney two straight years. He was a tri-captain his senior year and heavyweight champ at the Oil City tourney.
He represented the Northwest PA. Class AA All-Stars in the Sports Spectacular event, defeating his AAA opponent 4-2.
In football for coach Sam Liburdi, he started at offensive tackle as a juniorand senior as well as defensive end his senior season. He was named first-team all-Mercer County both ways. He was selected as first-team Northwest Pa. Conference offensive tackle and 2nd team defensive lineman. He was nominated as "Slav Athlete of the Year" and selected to the Prep All-America Yearbook, representing the nation's best high school athletes.
He was recruited by several colleges, accepting a grant-in-aid to play football at California State University of Pa. He started his freshman year at offensive tackle, then moved to defensive tackle.
He graduated from Cal in 1980 and in following years was invited to play in the prestigious Cal Alumni football games three times.
After graduation, he was an assistant football coach at Sharon Junior High under Tom Hall and Jim Wildman.
