Larry Prince was one of the key members of Coach Ed McCluskey's 1972 Farrell High state championship team that defeated the powerful Chester Clippers, 56-55, in the title game.He and Mercer County Hall of Famer Danny Stewart formed the 1-2 punch for McCluskey, both being named first-team All-State as seniors in '72.Larry played varsity basketball for three years and lettered in track.
In addition to All-State honors, he was named to the Section 3 All-Star Team and was an All-WPIAL selection.He scored 425 points in his senior year, averaging 15 points per game. He totaled 51 points in three games during the 1972 WPIAL tournament at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena, including 23 in the quarterfinal game against Shaler and 23 in the semifinals against Keystone Oaks, posting a 9-for-9 second-half shooting spree.
He was named the Most Valuable Player at the Farrell Lions Club annual Christmas Tournament his senior year.
His speed and athletic prowess ranked him amongst the best to wear a Steelers uniform. Regarding Prince, McCluskey commented: "He's so fast he recovers from a mistake before the opponent realizes that he's made one."
He went on to play basketball for a year at St. Clair Community College in Port Huron, Mich.
