Lynn Jones is a former Thiel College star who went on to a major league career and earned a World Championship ring with the Kansas City Royals.

Jones, who began his sports career playing baseball, basketball and volleyball at Linesville High School, was a three-sport star at Thiel College, Greenville. From 1971-74, he played baseball and basketball for the Tomcats and also played soccer his senior year. He was all-conference in baseball in 1973-74 and honorable mention all-conference in basketball as well as All-Lutheran in 1974.

He was drafted in the 10th round by the Cincinnati Reds and played five years in the minor leagues.

He was drafted in the major league draft by the Detroit Tigers and played five years, from 1979-83, in Detroit. He was selected to the Topps Rookie All-Star Team in 1975 and in 1977 won the Rawlings Silver Glove Best Defensive Outfielder Award.

He signed as a free agent with the Kansas City Royals where he played from 1984-86. Jones helped the Royals to the West Division Championship in 1984 and the World Series Championship in 1985.

Lynn served as first-base coach for the Royals in 1991-92. He managed in the minors for the Florida Marlins organization from 1993-2000. He coached third base, baserunning and outfield in 2001. He has been working with the Boston Red Sox organization most recently and was recently promoted to coach first base for the major league club in 2004.

He is a member of the Thiel College Hall of Fame.
