Margaret A. (Schneider) Bougher was one of the top female athletes at Sharpsville High School in the early 1970s who helped put the Blue Darlings on the map in state athletics.
During her tenure at Sharpsville, the girls basketball team captured the Mercer County Athletic Conference championship in 1972, '73 and '74, while winning District 10 titles the latter two seasons.
In 1973, she teamed with Mercer County Hall of Famer Debbie Jones to help lead the Blue Darlings to the first-ever PIAA state-sanctioned girls championship game where they lost to the more-experienced Allentown Central Catholic club.
As a team co-captain in 1974, she helped lead the team to the state semifinals. Her final two years, the team posted an overall record of 42-1. She was named to the 1972 Kennedy Christian Boosters Tournament all-tourney team when Sharpsville won the championship. She scored a school-record 32 points in a playoff game against Bradford during the 1973 state run and was presented the game ball by coach Glenna Harris.
Margaret received a scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh for both basketball and volleyball and competed with Pitt in the 1975 AIAW Eastern Regional Tournament Invitational.
She played volleyball and basketball for two years and Pitt and volleyball for one year at Slippery Rock University.
She served as girls basketball coach at Sharpsville from 1993-95 and assistant volleyball coach from 1993-95.
