Marti Heckman becomes the 17th woman inducted in the Mercer County Hall of Fame.

She was a tremendous basketball and track standout at Lakeview High School before a phenomenal career on the hardwood at Ohio University.

In basketball, she lettered all four years and helped lead her teams to an overall mark of 103 wins and only 15 losses. Highlight was her senior year in 1982, when the team was state runner-up and was 30-0 after winning the western regional title.

Her clubs made it to the PIAA quarterfinals her freshman and sophomore years, while reaching the second round of the PIAA playoffs her junior season.

She scored 1,543 career points, a school record that lasted for 25 years. Her single-game high was 35. She also had 588 assists, 544 rebounds and 375 steals.

In track she set the school record in the 1600 (5:28) and medalled at the PIAA state meet as part of the 2-mile relay team in 1981.

Marti played point-guard with the Ohio University basketball team from 1983-86. Her senior year the team won the Midwestern Athletic Conference crown and was ranked 24th in the nation by USA Today. She was named All-MAC First-Team her senior year.

She was inducted into the Ohio University Hall of Fame in 1993. At that time she was still the all-time MAC and Ohio U. career assist leader for both men and women with 810 and had the top three assists seasons with 194, 230 and 277.

She had the mark for assists per game (19). She ranked 5th on the OU all-time steal list (130), 8th in all-time scoring (856) and 10th rebounding (410).
