Marty Ruley was a former athletic standout at Grove City High School who returned to his alma mater as a long-time successful coach.

In his scholastic career for the Eagles, he played football from 1959-61 and wrestled from 1958-61. He was a four-year letterman in the mat sport and captain of the squad. He was a 3-year letterman in football and won All-County honors. He played in the Mercer County All-Star Football Game. He went on to wrestle one year at Clarion University.

Marty returned to Grove City High as a teacher and coached wrestling for 36 years, posting 294 victories. He coached 5 state champions - including Tom Tomeo who was a rare state champ in both Class AA and AAA divisions - and numerous state qualifiers. Several of his proteges went on compete in college and some went on to become successful coaches as well. He was a two-time Coach of the Year in wrestling.

He also coached in the Grove City football program for 9 years and girls softball for 15 years.

He served as announcer for football games for several seasons. He played in various softball leagues. He is a member of wrestling and football coaching associations.
