Mickey Alexander has been one of the top golfers in the Shenango Valley area for several decades.
He won The Herald-Tam O'Shanter Junior Golf Championship in 1957 after finishing runner-up the previous year. He was captain of the Sharon High golf team his senior year (1957) and helped the team win the Yankee Run Scholastic Tournament that season, finishing tied for second for individual honors.
His senior year he had the low average (74) in the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Conference. He finished runner-up in the junior division at the Champ of Champs Tournament at Squaw Creek Country Club and finished seventh in the Pennsylvania State Jaycee Tournament.
As a four-year letterman at Slippery Rock State Teachers College, he served as co-captain then captain of the golf team and finished runner-up in the Pennsylvania State Teachers Tournament in 1960. He also played soccer at Slippery Rock.
Mickey was a member of the Penn-Ohio Golf League for 25 years and served as captain of the Sharon team. He won the prestigious Punch McDowell Cup Tournament at Sharon Country Club twice and finished second once. He also won the senior division of the tournament.
Teaming with another Mercer County Hall of Famer, Ed Seginak, he won numerous bestball tournaments. He has six holes-in-one. He coached the Sharpsville High golf team for 29 years and also coached basketball at various grade levels.
