Pat Forese was a multi-sport great at Grove City High School who went on to a brilliant coaching career.He played football and wrestled for four years and competed in track for two seasons before graduating in 1972.He was a 2-year letter-winner in each sport. In football he was 2nd-team All-Northwest Conference defensive back.
Forese went on to Slippery Rock State College where he played baseball for four years and graduated in 1976. As team captain in his senior year, he won the team's Outstanding Senior Award and was named 1st-Team PSAC West at catcher.
He played in the Orange County (Calif.) Baseball Association from 1977-79 and was an all-star at 3rd base.He played in the New Castle Softball League and was honored as MVP. In other independent sports he competed in basketball, volleyball, hockey, flag football and golf.Forese was named to all-star teams many times in baseball and softball leagues and was inducted into the Legends of North County Baseball, New Castle, in 2014.An outstanding golfer, he was club champion at Grove City Country Club in 2013 and carried a handicap of 2 or 3 for years.
He coached several sports at Grove City High, especially making his mark in baseball where he was head coach for 26 years. His teams won 14 league titles and 6 District 10 crowns. He started the program that went 350-167-1 in his long tenure.He coached boys golf for 14 years and won 3 region titles, while finishing D-10 runner-up once. He also was assistant coach to Mercer County Hall of Famer Roger Flynn in girls basketball for 9 years, winning 2 D-10 titles; assistant wrestling coach 1 season; and 9th grade boys basketball coach one year, going 16-6.
He helped coach Little League and conducted a Little League Coaches Clinic for 20-plus years.
