Paul Ceremuga was one of several Mercer County Hall of Famers produced at the former St. Michael's School in Greenville.
Paul was a star at St. Mike's in both football and basketball from 1953-1956, In football he was chosen to play in the Mercer County All-Star Game. His final game he rambled for 134 yards and scored 3 TDs in a 43-0 romp over Middlefield (Ohio) High.
In basketball he was a key member of the team that won the Erie Diocesan championship before losing in the state Western Region Class B finals to St. Casimer's of Pittsburgh.
He went on to Youngstown State University, where he was a four-year starter in football for the Penguins under legendary mentor Dike Beede, playing both ways. On offense, Paul was a halfback, while on defense he played in the secondary.
In 1959, Paul's running and outstanding pass catching helped the Penguins to their first winning season since 1954. He played intramural basketball at YSU, winning several trophies, and also became a talented independent golfer at the school.
He went on to become an assistant coach at Windham High, He coached five years at the junior and senior high levels at the Woodridge School District (Ohio), where he established junior high football and track programs.
As a junior high basketball coach at Boston Junior High, Peninsula, Ohio, he put together several successful seasons. One year the team went 15-1.
Paul also coached Little League baseball.
