Robert Dooms
Robert "Bob" Dooms was one of the top basketball standouts to hail from Sharon High School who went on to a strong career at Syracuse University.
He played hoops at Sharon from 1967-70 and his senior year he scored 309 points and was a fierce rebounder for the Tigers. He had a season high of 22 points against a powerful Pittsburgh Allegheny team. Bob was named 2nd Team All-Section 3. He played for the West Penn All-Stars in the prestigious Dapper Dan Roundball Classic.
He went on to earn a scholarship at Syracuse University where he was a key player on several top teams. He was a three-year starter and helped lead the Orange to the NIT and twice to the NCAA tournament. During his tenure, the Orange were ranked in the top 20 in the country in 1973 and 1974.
He had numerous top performances in his career. In the NIT in New York City, he scored the final two buckets to lift Syracuse over Davidson, 81-77. In the NCAA Eastern Regional tourney one season, Dooms scored 12 points in a thrilling 69-68 win over Penn. Dooms � known as Sugar Bear to his teammates and Syracuse Daily Orange writers because of his strong inside game � had a big showing when Syracuse topped St. John's, 80-70, to help the team's drive for the NCAA tourney. He scored 15 points and pulled down 11 boards. He served as team captain of The Orange in 1974.
Bob was a past vice-president of the Syracuse Chargers.
