Robert Pegues was one of the top football players ever produced at Farrell High School.

In football, from 1949-51 he was a standout and helped lead the Night Riders to a WPIAL Class AAAA Championship in 1951.

A three-year starter, his senior year he was named all-WPIAL and was honorary captain of the team.

He also lettered in track, running a leg of the 880 relay team, and lettered in wrestling as a member of Farrell’s last mat team in 1950.

He went on to play football on a scholarship at Penn State University and was a one-year starter, playing with Nittany Lion greats Lenny Moore, Rosey Greer and Charley Blockson. Robert was recognized for starting a weight training program at PSU.

He went on to play pro football in the Canadian League with the Hamilton Tiger Cats, playing offensive and defensive tackle. He also played football while in the U.S. Army.

Robert later taught weight lifting classes at the F.H. Buhl Club, Sharon, and served on the United Way and MLK Center boards.
