Robert "Bob" Stewart was another of the great Farrell High basketball standouts who played for Coach Ed McCluskey in the heyday of the school's success. He was one of the key players on the 1969 state championship team that finished 27-1, prompting the legendary coach to say many years ago in tribute: "We don't win the state championship without Stew."

Bob played varsity basketball for three years and lettered in track for three years, qualifying for state in the long and triple jumps his junior and senior years. He set a record in the triple jump as a senior. He was part of a junior high basketball program that didn't lose a game while he was there on 7th, 8th and 9th grade teams. After high school, he played at Penn State-Shenango for two seasons, where he averaged 20 points per game.

He went on to coach basketball at area high schools for nearly 40 years as head boys coach and head girls coach at West Middlesex High and as varsity assistant at his alma mater, a position he held under Mercer County Hall of Famer Frank Sincek and current coach Roland Shannonhouse.
