Rod E. Wilt was an outstanding wrestler developed at Greenville High School, who went on to greatness at nearby Thiel College.
At Greenville, he was part of the mat program from 1979-82. He placed third in the section as a freshman, but missed the next two years with a neck injury. His senior year he was Section 2-AA runner-up, 3rd at districts and part of the Trojans' Northwest Regional Team Champion.
It was at Thiel College in Greenville where he really reached his peak in the sport. In 1984 he was a NCAA Division III National Qualifier. In 1985, he was President's Athletic Conference champion and named outstanding wrestler. He went on to finish as runner-up in the NCAA Division III Championships. That year he competed for the NCAA Div. III All-Star team in Mexico City. In 1986, Rod again won the PAC crown and was named outstanding wrestler. He finished third at the NCAA Div. III tourney and also was an Academic All-American. He is the only Thiel wrestler ever to be the No. 1 seed for the NCAA tourney.
He served as a wrestling official at the 1991 and 1992 NCAA Division III Nationals. He also officiated the Mid-American Conference Championships twice and the Eastern Wrestling League Championships 6 times. He was a member of the Eastern Wrestling League Officials Association and was an approved official for the top wrestling conferences in the country.He also was president of the Greenville Little League in 2003 and 2004 and president of the North Allegheny High School Baseball Boosters for two years. He served as a member of the Thiel College Board of Trustees for 13 years.
A former member of the Pa. House of Representatives, he was elected into the Thiel College Hall of Fame in 1996.
