Roger Flynn is the winningest girls basketball coach in the history of Mercer County, retiring as Grove City High mentor after the 2006 season with a career mark of 531-201. In his 27 years he averaged almost 20 wins per season.

During that span his teams amassed 14 Mercer County Athletic Conference championships and 3 District 10 crowns. His Lady Eagles finished runners-up 5 times in District 10.

Four of his teams advanced to the PIAA Western Regional finals, one short of the state game. Those years and records were: 1985-86, 20-9; 1986-87, 29-1; 1987-88, 28-3 and 1991-92, 22-4.

But he was more than just a girls basketball coach at Grove City, coaching more than 80 seasons in various sports. He served 18 years as middle school girls coach, 10 years as boys 9th-grade basketball coach, 16 years as assistant baseball coach and 10 years as assistant football coach. He served as Grove City College assistant women's basketball coach from 2005-06.

Roger graduated in 1964 from New Kensington High were he was a standout in baseball and played one year of basketball. He went on to Slippery Rock University where he was a starting pitcher for 4 seasons with the Rock baseball squad. In 1968, he posted a 5-1 mark as to help lead the team to a 16-1 record.

His earned run average of 0.80 was a school record as he allowed only 4 earned runs in 35 innings. During that span he allowed only 19 hits, while striking out 28 and walking only 7.

He went on to an outstanding career in independent baseball and softball. In baseball, he pitched in the Senior Baseball World Series from 1989-94. His team was national runner-up in 1989. He is still a member of the local Penn Classics senior team, playing with the locals since 1998. He also played with the Salem Warlocks for the past 3 years in the Roy Hobbs Baseball League and pitched in the Roy Hobbs tourney in Fort Myers, Florida in 2006.

In softball he played in many state and national events. Also an outstanding golfer, he won the member-member championship at Grove City Country Club in 2001 and was a two-man best-ball champ in 2003.

He serves on various boards and committees to help the Grove City area.
