Scott Easton was a record-setting basketball player at Grove City High School who went on to a brilliant career in the military and FBI.

At Grove City from 1972-75, he was a three-year starter for Coach Len Clarke and was 1st Team All-Mercer County his junior and senior seasons.

As a junior, Scott tallied 413 points and helped lead the team to a 24-4 record, including a Mercer County B League title and PIAA playoff run that ended in a western semis loss to eventual state champ Midland.

His senior season, he sparked the Eagles to a 22-2 mark and another county league crown as he averaged 21 points (503 total), 13 rebounds and 4 blocks per game. During his three seasons as a starter the team went 62-12.

He was the first player in school history to exceed 1,000 points for his career (1,103) and the second player in county history to be selected to play in the Post-Gazette Dapper Dan Roundball Classic. He was invited to and attended the Five Star Basketball Camp.

His senior year, he played in the Hoyle Tournament for a second time, the All-American Cage Classic in Akron and the Hubbard Cage Tournament. He won the Frank “Jiggs” Wolford Award.

He also was a member of the GCHS track team as a freshman, competing in the high jump and 800.

Scott was recruited by numerous colleges, but accepted an appointment to the United States Military Academy where he played in 93 games for legendary Coach Mike Krzyzewski and was a three-year letter winner. He tallied a total of 794 points and was regarded as one of the best pure shooters in Army history.

During his four years, Army posted a 64-42 record, and went 53-28 his three years starting. He had many college highlights, including playing in the NIT in 1978 and making two free throws against Florida State to win the Vermont Classic, the first tournament win in program history.

He went on to play center for the U.S. Army Hanau Military Community basketball team that won the U.S. Army Europe Championship in ’82 and finished second in ’83.

Scott received numerous honors in the military and earned an honorable discharge as captain in 1987.

He served as a special agent for the FBI on several top priority cases involving counterterrorism. He was also a lead paster at two rural United Methodist churches.

His coaching resume included five different high school teams in Illinois as well as volunteer assistant at Duke for Coach K and assistant at James Madison U. under Lefty Driesell. He was head coach of the U.S. All-Army team.
