Walter (Dick) Strosser was a fine athlete in both football, basketball and baseball at Mercer High School, but it?s his service to community sports that earned him a spot with the Mercer County Hall of Fame class of 2009.
At Mercer, he played football and basketball for three years and baseball in 1950, his senior year. He went on to graduate from Grove City College in education, playing independent baseball at the same time in 1951 and 1952.
He continued to compete in independent sports, playing 38 years as a volleyball setter with a group at First Presbyterian Church, Sharon.
His love for baseball carried over to a 32-year involvement with Hermitage Little League, where he served as coach, manager, umpire, officer and member of the board of directors.
He has served as the Mercer County District Administrator for Little League since 1991, helping direct tournaments that have benefited many thousands of youngsters over the years. He succeeded Merle Hickey in the district role, another Mercer County Hall of Famer.
He was received another prestigious award in 2008 when he was named a Buhl Day honoree for his community volunteer services in many areas.
